bio

I grew up in a house of collectors; both parents have an assortment of random items reflecting their eclectic tastes. Because of this, I found an acceptance for both my own eclectic taste as well as my constant doodling.

It is impossible to count the number of times a teacher has told me to stop drawing in class, but it only encouraged me. The drawings crowded my homework, notes and clothing.

My multi-layered, character-driven work comes straight out of my head. I do everything freehand, primarily in pen, and draw my inspiration from ancient civilizations. Their art inspires me greatly because of its symmetry. Despite the overall hectic and riotous look of my work, every character is different and there is a perfect balance on each side that calms me and serves as a form of therapy.

My canvases include people’s shoes and clothing s well as found surfaces such as wood, metal, plastic and cardboard that I find on my ramblings in flea markets and alleys in my neighborhood.

I’m always trying something new, and now I’m drawing on vintage photographs, adding my characters to these anonymous figures and scenes from the past. It is said that photography steals a person’s soul, so manipulating a photo is like manipulating a soul.

Since picking up my first Lego brick, I’ve tried to create balance in my art. Whether using one brick at a time or one stroke of the pen at a time, I continue to seek that balance.
